I can never ever forget those days when my Grand Parents used to tell me stories! Those were probably the best days of my life! Don‘t we all agree to the fact that Grand Ma’s and Grand Pa’s stories are the best one‘s ever ?
My Grandpa used to tell me about those days before our country attained freedom. Those days of hustling and struggling were probably the most difficult and memorable days of his days.
Grandpa hails from this small town called ‘Chikkaballapura’ which is roughly 80-100 kilometres from the city of Bengaluru in Karnataka state. He recalled his childhood days and told me about all those experiences he had while contributing to the freedom struggle. He even shared those moments where he went along with his friends when M.K Gandhi Ji had visited Chikkaballapur (Gandhi Ji stayed there for over a month in here).
It has been more than 10 years since my grandpa passed away. Every time I hear the word Independence, his experiences are what I recall.
MK Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose were whom he looked up to always. They were his inspiration. He used to share those small incidents where he has put all his efforts to our freedom struggle.
The freedom we enjoy today are the efforts of our ancestors. They have put in their blood, heart and soul to ensure the future generations live with utmost peace. And here we are today surviving with the epitome level of freedom, which they worked hard for.
Today, I have come to a realisation that each of our grand parent is a Freedom Fighter! A warrior! Let us proudly call them our heroes! Let us all learn about our own family’s freedom struggle!
I am dedicating this Independence Day to my #UnsungHero! My GrandPa! Who is your #UnsungHero ? Share your stories and thoughts below!
Wishing you all a very happy Independence Day!
With lots of Love,
Ganesh Datta Lakkur
